Dangers For Basement Waterproofing - Carlsbad Construction

One of the most fundamental elements of any good drainage system for protecting your home's foundation walls from water damage are footer drains, which act as conduits to move excess groundwater away from your basement. Footer drains are not a new modern concept, and have been around for many years. Still, the materials used to construct footer drains today are superior to those used years ago, which deteriorate and become ineffective over the years. Traditionally, basement waterproofing footer drains were made using clay tile, which worked well at the time. But if your house is several decades old, these clay footer drain tiles may be losing their effectiveness.

The problem with clay tile pipes and drains is that they can deteriorate over time, and develop cracks, breaks and slips that allows sediment and tree roots into the system. When enough roots and dirt have clogged a clay footer drain, it can become completely blocked and no longer allow the conveyance of water out away from your foundation. And if this happens, it's only a matter of time until excess groundwater builds up around your basement walls and begins to cause problems like water damage, mold, mildew, cracking and leaking. Any of these can end up being much more expensive to fix than simply fixing your current clay footer drain tiles.

That's not to suggest that you will necessarily have to replace your clay footer drains with modern PVC pipe drains in order to solve your basement waterproofing problem. on the contrary, in many cases your clay footer drains can be serviced by simply tapping into one corner of the drainage system and cleaning the drain itself. This is possible with either a drain snake auger or a high-pressure water jetting system, which can blast obstructions out of the drain and allow water to flow freely through it again.

If, however, your clay footer drain tiles are severely cracked, broken or slipped out of place, it may be necessary to replace some or all of your foundation drainage system. This can involve an extensive amount of work, since a complete excavation of your foundation is necessary to reach the footer drains themselves. And if your basement walls have been significantly damaged by hydrostatic pressure already, it may be necessary to also replace the blocks themselves, as well. As you can tell, it's better to service your existing clay footer drains to work properly before the damage becomes irreversible.

The advantage of having modern, perforated PVC pipe footer drains is that the materials are vastly more durable than clay and last longer without the need to clean them out as often. While newly constructed homes are now built using modern drainage materials, older homes that were built before PVC pipe may have to be serviced more often to ensure that there is no flooding or water damage in your basement. By having your clay footer drain tiles serviced regularly by professional drain cleaners, you can ensure that costly water damage and flooding issues won't be in your future.

Build A Home Bar - House Remodeling Ideas

Deciding to build a home bar can be a mixed bag of emotions. At first, you're very excited about your home bar plans because you're going to have this fantastic bar right in your very own home! You'll be throwing awesome parties and entertaining countless friends and family members. Everyone will be talking about how cool your bar is and how they want one in their house too.

However, excitement soon gives way to concern as you realize that you don't have the slightest idea of where to begin to start actually building your bar. You've got no blueprints and no idea what supplies you will need. In addition, you may have little to no construction experience and be afraid that you'll really mess up anything you try to build.

This is the point where most people pick one of three options that almost NEVER yield satisfactory results. They either:

1- Buy a pre-built bar - You've seen these pre-fab bars before. They cost an arm and a leg and they stick out like a sore thumb when you place them in your home. Unless you spend really big money, it's very hard to get one of these that actually looks nice and fits into your home well.

2- Wing It - Ever been to a friend's house and he shows you the "bar" he built, which turns out to be some ugly rectangular structure sticking out of the wall, usually with an old piece of kitchen countertop on it? This happens way too often, and it's the result of people jumping right in and and thinking that they can build a bar without a bit of planning. Every once in a while, this turns out well but, more often than not, it is an absolute failure.

3-Give Up - A lot of people actually stop at this stage. They realize they don't know where to begin and feel like it will be too difficult to figure out how to build a bar of their own. They don't even think about seeking out DIY Bar Plans to learn how to easily build a home bar. People fail to realize that with a good set of home bar plans, almost anyone can build a great looking, high quality bar.

Instead of doing one of these three things, the proper thing to do is to simply do a bit of research into how to build a home bar. You'll quickly find that almost everyone who has had success in building a great bar in their home has started with a great set of bar plans. It gives you the confidence that you can build a great bar and, most importantly, removes all of the guesswork from the process.

If you're serious about building a home bar, don't give up and don't risk failure! Start with a great set of Home Bar Plans to ensure success.

Why Foundation Repair Cannot Be Ignored

Foundation repair is the most complicated and the most expensive type of repair your home will ever need. This is the reason why so many people go to school to get training specifically to become a foundation repair contractor. Foundation repair is not something most people like to think about. Foundation problems can be a stressful, potentially costly endeavor, filled with uncertainty, particularly if not done professionally. Foundation Repair is needed when your foundation begins to settle. This can be caused by building on expansive clay, compressible or improperly compacted fill soils, or improper maintenance around foundations. Mother Nature plays a big part in this also depending on the state you live in and how cold your winters can get.

Foundation repairs are usually quite expensive, but are an essential home improvement. Foundation repairs are often difficult and expensive, so it's important to build the foundation correctly the first time. The Build A Better Home program from APA- The Engineered Wood Association is designed to provide builders and homeowners with the construction guidelines they need to protect their homes against damaging moisture infiltration. Foundation repairs aren't easily performed, so breathe deep, sit back and hope for the best. When your choices are few and far between, you need to find the best contractor for the job. The lowest price is not always the best way to go and if you choose to make your final decision on just that fact, be prepared to be disappointed most of the time.

Cracks that are buckling, bowing, sinking and other defects are commonly caused by the foundation settling, unstable or shifting soil, environmental conditions or even poor landscaping design. When left untreated, these seemingly minor problems can become a major headache and lead to serious structural damage. The earlier you catch this problem and try to fix it the better your chances of it not costing a fortune.

Foundation repair can't be ignored. The "traditional" answer to foundation repair has been to erect "piers" to jack up the foundation and raise it off the expansive clay soil. Piers have several distinct disadvantages and drawbacks. Foundation repair can be expensive and tricky. You'll want to shop around and get several bids from several different contractors as well as have a look at their experience in such matters. Foundation repair can be the most expensive repair that you will make to a property. One of the saddest things I've heard in the investment community are the stories of investors who have purchased a property, rehabbed it, and put it on the market only to have the buyer's inspector tell them there was a problem with the foundation.

Cracks and other damage can look unattractive, reduce the overall value of your home and lead to more serious structural problems. Steps can be taken to fix foundations to maintain the quality and value of most homes. Cracks usually develop in the floors and grade beams of buildings having an abnormal degree of differential settlement. The cracks in concrete are normal and could be a symptom of differential settlement and not the problem.

Foundation repair is critical to address as soon as you suspect a problem. For starters, the sooner you fix a failing foundation, the less damage it will cause. My best advice any professional contractor can give a homeowner in need of foundation repair is to remedy the problem as soon as possible before it gets worse and leads to several costly other repairs.

A Spotless Mind

How marvelous is the human mind. It has the capacity to amass hundreds of thousands of thoughts and memories. It is the only organ in the human body upon which every other organ and member is totally reliant. No other organ or member of the body has such magnificent responsibility as the brain. Speaking of members; do you realize that your head is the only member of your body that contains every one of the body's senses? Of the body's five senses sight, sound, taste, smell, and even touch four are located within the head.

I do not think it coincidental that Christ is called the "Head" of the "body, which is the church (Eph. 4:15 & Col 1:18)." The body consists of many members, but there can only be one head. The abilities to see, hear, to taste, smell and feel are totally and exclusively dependent upon the head. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that you support your pastor. He has been called by God to lead the members of the body of Christ in your community. He is given the unction that makes us function.

Support your pastor. He is to cast the vision of the church (i.e. evangelism), you are to catch the vision, and then you are to cast your nets into the sea of humanity; Cast, catch, cast. You are called to be fishers of men not hearers of sermons. Remember to obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you. Pray for them. I am certain that they have a clear conscience and desire to live honorably in every way. (Heb 13:17-18. Paraphrase and emphasis mine)

Colossians 1:20-23 teaches, "And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard..." (NIV, Emphasis added.)

1 Timothy 1:5 The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.

Sweet is the blessing that drips from the brow of a spotless mind.

Stair Lighting Problems - Safety Home Ideas

Walking up and down the stairs in the dark could become a safety issue. If the stairs in the house are not that old, there should be a light switch at the top and a light switch at the bottom of the stairway. This is a three way switch and is designed to allow you to turn the stair lighting on as you walk up the stairs and then turn the stair lighting off, once you've safely reached the top of the stairway. And vice versa as she walked down the stairs.

If you don't have a light switch, there are motion sensor lights that are battery operated and can be installed easily in the stairway. These lights can provide you with peace of mind, while protecting your family from accidents.

Stairway accidents are nothing to joke about, I lived in a two-story house with four other people and was the last one to fall down the stairway. None of us got seriously injured and the stairway was built to meet local building codes and was inspected by a building and safety inspector. The stairs were built correctly and the stair lighting was no problem, but people still fell down the stairway and it always happens in the evening.

During the day time there were two windows that let plenty of light into the stairway and in the evening the stairway became quite dark, rarely was the stair lightning ever turned on. This could have been outright laziness but nevertheless, it was rarely used and eventually became a safety issue.

Lighting your stairway might not end all of your problems but it can and some of your problems. There are plenty of stair lighting systems available on the market today and some of the battery operated stair lighting systems can be installed by most homeowners.

Think safety always and do your best to solve your stair lighting problems as soon as possible to prevent injuries or accidents.

How Developing Your Awareness About Universal Laws Will Work To Your Advantage and Success

Universal laws also known as spiritual laws or laws of nature are principles that never change. They rule over our universe. Once you become aware of how these incredible principles operate, and align your actions with these laws you will literally attract abundance into your life.

Because of a lack of awareness of how these laws work we have tried to get abundance by struggle, working more, resulting in physical and emotional overwhelm, fear, anxiety, depression and many other problems.

The Universal laws work by exact precision. They are predictable, they never waver or err, and make no distinction on who they work for. They work regardless of your gender, color, age, religious preference of if you are aware of or are ignorant about their existence.

Just like gravity makes no distinction as to who they work for, the universal laws work with the same unwavering and precise fashion. It doesn't matter if you are black, white, young or old, Indian, Chinese, Jewish, Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, or an atheist. These laws work in a predictable and specific way 100% of the time.

When you develop an awareness of how they work and you consciously align your thoughts and actions with them, you will attract and experience seemingly impossible outcomes, and attract what you desire into your life. Understanding these laws will develop a deep awareness of the incredible power that these simple truths hold. They will help you to rewrite and replace the self sabotaging and limiting beliefs that have caused struggle and hardship in your life.

Most people don't know who they really are, or the reason for being in this world. Because of this lack of awareness they don't know what they are capable of creating and achieving, operating only by their five senses to create what they want.

We only see our body composed of nine systems, organs, tissues and cells, but they are further broken down into molecules, atoms, protons, electrons and subatomic particles. These are all electromagnetic vibrating waves of light called Quanta.

Quantum physics is the science that explains how this infinitely small universe that you and I cannot see with our physical eyes operates. It tells us that at the lowest denominator we are a soup of energy.

So it is important to realize that you are more that your body or your five physical senses. You are energy, housed in a body. You are infinite potential, pure energy at your core. You are intelligence and consciousness. You are magnificent, powerful, and invincible. You have all this potential residing within you which needs to be activated and released so that you can create what you desire. So how does this incredible intelligence work? How do you fit into the whole scheme of things?

First realize that everything is energy. It is present everywhere and cannot be created nor destroyed. Energy moves from one form to another, from a higher vibration to a lower vibration, from a subtle to a gross form, and is interchangeable. Energy can be changed into matter and matter can be converted into energy. Energy is always changing. It is in constant motion and it never rests. Change is energy's only attribute.

Second, the universe operates by natural laws, meticulously and with accuracy. There are truly no accidents. When you work with these laws they will work with you.

Just like the wave is a part of the ocean and the ocean is a part of the wave, and the two cannot be separated, so too you as an individual can have your own views and at the same time be connected to the infinite possibilities of the universe.

These laws work when you realize that you are not separate from the universe but are one, that you are in partnership with one another and are working together as a team. Therefore to work together as a team you must learn how the universe operates, so that these laws can work to your advantage.
