Nurture Your SoulCreate Peace of Mind

The majority of people believe humans have a soul. There is significant controversy, however, on the souls impact or whether as humans we impact the souls growth or lack there of. Those who practice spirituality believe we are human beings having a spiritual experience and we are spiritual beings having a human experience. Such movies as: Ghost, Sixth Sense, What The Bleep Do We Know?, City of Angels and others illuminate this belief.

Nurturing the soul is as important as healthy nutrition, exercising and sleep. The souls sole purpose is to create spiritual/emotional growth. The sense of well-being and happiness emanates from the soul to the psyche. If the soul is ignored or malnourished the psyche and ultimately the body suffers.

The most effective way to nurture the soul is through spirituality. Spirituality is the God-related science of developing and freeing the God-made innermost beingthe core of usMade in the image of God." Love creates, all else destroys. Love cannot co-exist with other premises simultaneously; therefore, God is only love. The fly in the ointment of human existence verses in spiritual formas Godis the "ego. The ego is essential to navigate the vicissitudes in physical life. However, the ego is what gets us into trouble. The truth is: All life on earth serves the sole purpose of developing our spirituality to the point of being free of spiritual ignorance, free of selfish or destructive behavioral (ego) patterns, free to return to our eternal home in God. True spirituality leads to freedom in God.

True God-related spirituality is achieved by means of scientifically applying spiritual teachings and spiritual techniques that fosters the ego to vanish in the fire of divine love and ego-oriented spirita.k.a. intellectto be replaced by the Holy Spirit. Such true spiritual teachings can only be affected by a true connection to our innermost self. Because all humankind is God-made, Spirituality is our true nature and spiritual development is the most direct way to solutions of love and peace in all creation.
Prayer, Meditation, Gratitude, Spending time in natureincluding near fire and water are practices to create spiritual/emotional health.

Prayer: Researcher and mind/body medicine expert Herbert Benson, M.D. found that regular prayer or the repetition of spiritual phrases such as "Shalom," or "Hail Mary," triggers relaxation and reduces stress. Make prayer a time of personal conversation with God, state your need or concern and ask for divine intervention. Acknowledge all you have to be grateful for and give thanks for that which you desire. Giving thanks is more effective than asking for what you desire. God knows what you need before you need it and has already sent it to youtherefore giving thanks acknowledges what you havent seen yet. Establishing a regular prayerful routine is important.

Meditation: Researched for centuries, meditation is proven to have physiological benefits, including stress-relief, improved immune and cardiovascular function, relaxation, and decreased pain. Regular meditation practice leads to new insights about life issues (often resulting in the healing of past emotional trauma), heightened creativity, inspiration, greater compassion for others, and a greater connection to one's own inner guidance. There are a plethora of books and classes on meditation practices.

Gratitude: The state of being grateful; thankfulness. (The American Heritage Dictionary) In the push and pulls of life we seldom realize that we receive a great deal more than we give, and that it is only with gratitude that life becomes rich. Looking at the glass as half empty albeit is half full assures us, we will live with a sense of lack.

"Gratitude is our most direct line to God and the angels. If we take the time, no matter how crazy and troubled we feel, we can find something to be thankful for. The more we seek gratitude, the more reason the angels will give us for gratitude and joy to exist in our lives." --Terry Lynn Taylor

"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow." --Melody Beattie

Time in nature: The most visible manifestation of spirit is nature, where we most fully encounter and interact with life's primal energies in the forms of earth, water, fire, and air. Walking/hiking are easy and practical ways of reconnecting with nature and the earth, as are gardening, biking, camping and boating. Spending regular amounts of time outdoors within a natural setting, you enable yourself to better appreciate the rhythms of life, including your own.

Modern living prevents us from a balanced life. Time in nature restores that balance, while also deepening our connection with Spirit. Being near the water is a spiritually healthy experience, due to water's higher concentration of negative ions. Swimming in natural water or soaking in a mineral hot spring provides therapeutic benefits for a variety of ailments.

Exposure to a campfire or fireplace has health benefits. Leonard Orr discovered that fire cleanses the bio-energy field of negative energies, and is a powerful aid in curing physical disease. Orr recommends spending a few hours each day near fire. Fire is also an important component of the vision quests Native Americans undertake to connect with the Great Spirit and discover their life purpose.

Air is the closest expression of Spirit. Clean air is essential to health on all levels, and practicing conscious breathing is a potent self-care method for restoring energy and making you more aware of the power of Spirit as it flows through you.

Regular exposure to the four elements creates consciousness of Spirit's loving intelligence to sustain the world, while more deeply recognizing our place within it.

Given busy lives in todays world there are several techniques to use until one can engage with the four elements. The following techniques relax, revitalize and remove blocked energy.

Craniosacral TreatmentRelieves blockages caused by stress in the craniosacral system. Discovered by Dr. John Upledger in 1980, this system includes the cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord.

Reiki Chakra TreatmentJapanese spiritual healing technique, energy is channeled from master to student, cleansing the bodys chakrasspecific energy modes inside the body. Creates reduced stress and a stronger bridge to your inner being.

The Sound of Peaceful Healinga 120-minute sensory journey that uses sound, touch and smell to revive the senses and restore a feeling of calm.

Massage: Acupressurebased on acupuncture without needles, Deep Tissue, Reflexology, Swedish, Shiatsu, Aquatic Shiatsu,Trigger Point/Myotherapy, Rolfing.

Engaging in one or more of the soul nourishing activitiesPrayer, Meditation, Gratitude, Spending time in nature, including near fire and waterdaily will create soul/spiritual/ emotional health and you will enjoy a highly enriched and enriching life.

Antler Lamps and Chandeliers

Authentic antler lamps are an incredible addition to your home decor that creates the essential rustic lighting that most homes need. These hand crafted naturally shed antlers truly brings the outdoors to life in any room in your southwestern or country home. Each lamp is a unique, one-of-a-kind because of the genuine antlers that are found in spring after the deer, moose or elk have naturally shed them. If you wait too long to collect these treasures, small critters of the forest will chew on them for the calcium. Older sheds are generally more difficult to find.

Your country home decor will be complete with an antler lamp used as a table or desk lamp. The variety of styles and shapes are endless. However, you may like to have a hand crafted antler chandelier. Your kitchen decor especially, will be enhanced with this type of chandelier hung above your island. I have seen that they are beautiful hung above the dining room table to truly give an outdoor rustic look. To top off the beauty of the chandeliers, be sure to enjoy the glow from the natural rawhide chandelier shades.

Whether you choose to have leather or rawhide lamp shades, you will love the variety of shade colors. You may choose one of several colors in the pig skin leather shades as well as the rawhide laced lamp shades. Leather lamp shades have your basic color scheme colors for any home or southwestern decor. The rawhide shades are made of natural goat skin that is kept natural, bleached or dyed to create a colorful glow for your home lighting.

Log cabin decor would be missing something if it did not have a deer antler lamp as a part of its log home lighting. When you think of log cabin, you think of the outdoors, right? So definitely embrace the outdoors in your cozy home. You will find that these hand-crafted lamps are perfect for your cabin decor. You may even choose to hang a chandelier above the pool table in your lodge. These rustic lamps can be complete with pig skin leather or rawhide lamp shades, hand painted with a wildlife scene or of the many remarkable animals from the woods.

Another wonderful fact is that you may also have antler sconces to use as wall decor. These wall sconces have been beautifully made with real antler sheds mounted to a natural log plaque. Very unique in its appearance, these sconces are completed with rawhide candelabra shades. Your rustic decor will be outstanding with these one-of-a-kind pieces of art, whether it is for your lodge or a cottage in the woods.

Your western lighting will be exceptional when you have your own antler lamp. Being out west really reminds one of the memories from the early pioneer days. I am sure that along the wagon trails or during the search of a creek, they would stumble upon the natural sheds. Now, your southwestern home can be enhanced by the wall sconces or antler table lamps from genuine antlers. Who would have thought that a simple way of life would become a natural treasure for our western or country style decor needs?

You will definitely have unique home decor when you combine these rustic lamps with your additional country, hunting or wildlife theme. Some are crafted so artistically that it will make you delighted to have one of your own. Never settle for the ordinary pieces of home decorum. Be creative in all of your endeavors. Whether the table top, desk lamp, hanging antler chandelier or wall sconces, you can be thrilled to know that these antler lamps can set a perfect tone for your southwestern or country home.

Beginning Meditation

There is no better introduction to the subject of Meditation and a clear guidance for your personal direction of thoughts, than the beautiful words of Longfellow -

"Let us, then, labor for an inward stillness,
An inward stillness and an inner healing;
That perfect silence where the lips and heart
Are still, and we no longer entertain
Our own imperfect thoughts and vain opinions,
But God alone speaks in us, and we wait,
In singleness of heart that we may know
His will, and in the silence of our spirits,
That we may do His will, and do that only!
"
Longfellow

When we settle down to relax following effort or activity, it is natural that we want to be comfortable physically. We tend to collapse into an easy chair, to possibly doze off... possibly enjoy a nice doze for a minute or two-or many!. However, during this period, if we do go to sleep in order to refresh ourselves, we are unconscious. This is not the same as the state of meditation, which is a conscious and pleasurable refreshment experience.

As a beginner, if we wish to practice the simplest meditation we should choose a time of privacy when we know there will not be any interruption for half and hour or so. It is important to ensure there will be no sudden sound or disturbance.

The following is to serve as a simple guide until you feel confident and allow your own intuition to take over. There is no exact technique that is either right or wrong, so feel relaxed in your approach.

Be seated in a comfortable but upright position with hands relaxed in your lap or resting on your thighs if you are in a hard backed chair. Cross legged positions as usually assumed by Yoga students may be better, but most people have to work hard through exercise to allow their limbs to be comfortable enough to allow the mind to be free when in this position. So observe the two most important factors, these being physical comfort and an erect spinal posture.

The eyes are then closed gently. It usually takes a few minutes to take stock of how you feel. You may become aware of sensations, sounds, feelings, light and shade, movement of the air and so on at first before settling down and able to focus upon your breathing.

Simply inhale through the nose for a count of four, and then exhale to the same count. Keep this rhythm going for a few minutes until you feel you can increase the count to six which is to be continued for a few minutes, increasing the count gradually as your feel inclined.

Then, still with eyes closed, focus upon what you 'see' in front of your eyes - on the screen of the mind. Allow impressions, thoughts, and images to pass across the screen and allow any ideas that your subconscious mind throws up for your attention, to have their say.

Then when your inside world begins to quieten down and you perhaps begin to wonder what you should be thinking about, select a quote, or a special word or phrase, poem or prayer that appeals to you and repeat it, over and over until you can concentrate fully upon it. Usually this is continued for some minutes until your mind begins to tire. Then stop.

Continue to sit still. Make no effort to control how you think or feel, just sit.

This is the beginning of the internal adventure into a more profound state of awareness which happens naturally as you regularly practice enjoying the state of just 'being.'

Many find that the physical stillness of the body in contrast to the normal activity of the day is in itself relaxing. Some find these quiet moments filled with interesting feelings, thoughts or psychic experiences. Others are attracted to the practice of meditation as a spiritual experience.

Remember, meditation is a natural practice that allows us to feel peaceful, and refreshed. It is best not to influence your first introduction to it by having any preconceived ideas about how you think you should feel, what you hope to experience and so on, because it is your own private venturing into your inner nature and will bring you unique experiences which are yours alone.

Hooray For Little Ones

Life is full of challenges and some heartache. We can't always have what we want all the time and there are some things that just seem to pass us by. But, one of the greatest moments in life isn't that promotion at work, or getting that first pension check, it is the birth of a grandchild.

It is just that moment that we have been waiting for as we peddle our way through the various streams of life anxiously awaiting the arrival of our grandchild; in fact, our first grandchild.

My niece recently gave birth to a cuddly, little girl and we became a great aunt and a great uncle. We were absolutely delighted for her and her husband and welcomed this little grand niece to the loving family. As much as we extend our love to her, there is still the expectation of our own first grandchild.

For me, what lies ahead will be more than delight; more than love alone; and more than sharing in the care of a grandchild whether that be a granddaughter or a grandson. The more, to me, is cherishing the responsibility for demonstrating the love and commitment that is an integral part of an extended family. It is the on-going desire to help, give advice, and to be part of the up bringing a fantastic gift.

For many grandparents, it is the chance to give again without the daily stress of going to work and to have to leave a child in the care of a non-family member. For other grandparents whether they are called a nanny or grandfather, or a host of other nicknames, it is the offering of a safe haven for both new parents and grandchildren. It is a home that extends the responsibility without undue concern from parents of raising a grandchild to be the best they can, to be cared for beyond just providing toys, or someplace to drop a child while parents go about other business.

The 'hooray' for little ones is to be needed, to be fondly and lovingly beckoned by that little voice as they toddle within protected environments, where they frolic and play within a secure home, and where attentiveness is combined with adoring love. It is the chance to share all over again hopefully a little wiser; the opportunity to play again as if you were younger and full of fantasy where the wonders of the world unfold in make believe games, or where a simple cardboard box provides hours of make believe castles, or a little tea house, or a grand home filled with all kinds of adventure.

And, all through this time of joy is the opportunity to provide unquestioning love and to share in being part of the rising bubbles of life as a grandchild grows into maturity.

Looking for nicknames to call Grandmothers, here you will find names for your grandchildren to call you. Browse our list and pick one that best describes you as you become a grandparent. Nicknames for Grandmothers.

Feng Shui - Simple Floor Plans 1, 2, 3

Assembling a simple floor plan can be no easy matter. If you are lucky enough to have an architectural to-scale floor plan or your home, office or abode you are way ahead of the game and the pack. On the other hand most of us do not have the luxury of a to-scale floor plan at our fingertips.

Do not despair assembling such a floor plan is not difficult. Its all in the process of making a simple plan with the sitting direction orientated on the bottom of the page or pages.

What are the steps to drawing up such a document? First of all you must consider that all exterior and interior entrances and doorways must be included. Along with this are all the windows, beds and desks. Next accurately measure your interior spaces. The key here is total accuracy. Nothing else will do. Easiest and best are the new laser type measuring devices that make accurate measurement a snap. If you are caught for lack of supplies or finances a standard regular old fashioned tape measure will do. Just follow the adage of "measure twice, cut once". Some people have conducted inaccurate measurements using their actual feet and estimating distances. This can be considered false economy both in terms of the actual final costs as well as your time. Measure all extremely accurately and comprehensively.

Measure the length of each room by starting with the back walls. If you can begin with the back wall that is connected close to your sitting area of your dwelling. Continue on with adjacent rooms starting of course with rooms with the back walls. Move forward in the building towards the front part sequentially. When you are finished with these accurate measurements you will find it extremely easy to draw a simple to-scale floor plan. It's easiest to make changes to your "map" or diagram if you use either and erasable pen or a simple pencil rather than a permanent ink pen.

The next step, in this process, is to divide your dwelling or business space into nine equal "cells". This can be simply done by adding together the lengths of each room. Next divide the length sum and the width sum by three. You might find this whole process of calculations easier , if you attach simple pieces of masking tape at each of the dividing markers on your inside walls. "Masking " tape is used by professional painters as a standard means of attaching to or masking areas of walls without any apparent or lasting damage done to the exterior surfaces and finishes of walls. Along the way note the corresponding marker or markers on your floor plan. Now with a colored pencil, draw a line connecting the length and width markers. You will now when you have completed this step when you have a floor plan onto which there is a grid of nine equal cell areas. If the cells appear not to be proportionate to your actual spaces then check or even recheck your work. Of course if your home is more than one story high, you must draw a separate floor plan for each floor of the building.

Now you are on the home stretch. The final step is to label your completed 9 cell floor plan. Outside, label each of the eight directions. Mark down and note sitting and facing areas with identifiable diagrams and markers noting each family member's area or areas.

Voila you now have completed your architecturally correct to-scale floor plan. Feng Shui.

Favorite Grandparent Memory

Several years ago while sitting in The Coffee Exchange with my nine-year-old granddaughter Alicia, our conversation turned to her mother's choice of lifestyle.

She expressed to me how she felt about it.

Alicia and her sister had a dad in their life, but they also had someone extra, her mother's female paramour.

There we were sitting at a two-seated table next to the wall. I looked at Alicia, admiring my beautiful granddaughter.

"So Alicia, how are things at home?" I looked at her expectantly.

"They're ok, Nana." She looked up from sipping her hot chocolate.

"You look a little sad Alicia, is everything really ok"? I asked.

"Yeah," she glanced at me, and then took another sip.

"I like Helen, she is a lot of fun, but sometimes her and mom embarrass me."

"What do you mean" I watched her face carefully.

"They took us to the park once and while Lynn and I were playing on the swings, they sat on the bench kissing," she looked down at her hot chocolate.

"I see what you mean, that would be embarrassing and I can see how you would be upset." I told her.

I looked at Alicia, her face troubled.

She removed her spoon from the cup and placed it on the table, "my greatest fear Nana, is that I will grow up to be like her."

"Alicia, I'm going to tell you something, and I want you to remember it for the rest of your life, it's something you can apply to anything in life."

I sent a prayer to God asking for divine wisdom to give my granddaughter the words she needed to heal.

"You have to realize people choose what they want to do in life, and your mother chose to live this kind of a lifestyle. You don't have to follow in her footsteps because God has given us free will, and that means we get to choose what path we go down in life."

Alicia smiled at me, and finished her hot chocolate. She placed the cup on the table, and then looked up at the wall where a picture hung between us. The picture had two houses with two paths leading up to the houses, and the sky was stormy looking.

"Nana, do you see that picture with the houses and two paths leading to the houses."

"Yes." I replied wondering what wonderful words of wisdom were about to erupt from my granddaughter.

"The path on the left is me, and the other path on the right is my mom." We are both going down different paths in life."

I beamed at her, "I couldn't have said it better, sweetheart."

She smiled back at me, her face brightening considerably.

"You know Nana, I'm glad we had this talk, because it really bothered me.

"Honey, you can come and talk to me anytime.

We rose from our chairs and left, both of us feeling better for having a heart-to-heart talk.

Hoping to Enter Heaven - Religious Views Based on Hope

I was told by an advertising executive one day that all of your advertisements need to deliver some sort of hope for the people you're trying to persuade into buying your products. Funny, if you think about it, I got some and great advice about life from someone in the advertisement business.

Most people are looking for hope, in everything they do. Most of our daily activities revolve around hope and this gives our lives some sort of direction. If you believe in an almighty being and creator of the universe, often you will try to please him, ....or her, ....or it, in hopes of entering the kingdom of heaven or the promised land after you die.

Often our fears will increase our levels of hoping, the fear of doing something against your religion can often inspire you to become a more spiritual person, a good and moral person. Fear of making the wrong choices will inspire us to make better, moral choices, all for the sake of acquiring a ticket to Heaven or Nirvana. You're hoping, your good deeds on earth will earn you a place in heaven.

Most people are afraid of dying and leaving this world, for good. They don't know where they're going and that seems to scare most people. If we can offer someone a little hope, that they are going to a much better place than here, we can often ease the pain and suffering associated with death. I have to admit, most religions of the world promise another world, after we're done with this one.

If you're living a honest and moral life with the hopes of living a bountiful life in heaven, could you be wrong. What if you're seeking Hope in the wrong religion? If you're a Christian and the Hindus are right and you're wrong, do you get to enter there eternal kingdom.

Think about this question, I'm about to ask you. What if spend your whole life studying your religion and it's wrong? There is no heaven and when you die, that's the end of your existence

Have you ever wondered why you believe in your religion and someone in another country or even a couple of miles away believes in something entirely different.

Don't get mad at me or yourself, simply think about the question for a while, this question has transformed my life and put me on a wonderful spiritual path of learning.

Change Our Thoughts to Change Our Lives

We learned in science that objects and our bodies are comprised of atoms which are in constant motion. Matter vibrates. If the motion increases, the state of the object changes. Ice is heated to water. Water is heated to steam. Light, heat, and electricity vibrate. Colors form a spectrum from red to violet. As the pulsation increases, the colors shift from red to orange to yellow to green to blue to violet. All energies move and shift. We energy; we are vibrations.

What is true of our physical bodies is also true of our mental states. Just as physical objects modify their state, such as water to steam and lights from red to orange, our thoughts adjust. Thoughts are vibrations. We can stimulate our ideas and move them to a higher state, or we can lower them and become caught in negative emotions. We change. How we do that is our choice.

A practical spirituality teaches us that we can't cling to old ideas or patterns that are no longer useful or positive. We can think better thoughts. We can think higher thoughts. Our emotions are influenced by people around us. While we may not sense, observe or describe the differences as vibrations, we are aware that some people are more uplifting. Others bring us down.

We choose those who surround us. We choose which thoughts and emotions dominate our lives. Each mental or emotional state has its own rate of vibration. We can transform that rate at will and maintain a mental calm, unaffected by the opinions around us. Negative beliefs do not have to alter our positive state. We manage our thoughts. We do not have to get caught in the up and down drama of family, friends and associates.

Our challenge is to rise above the normal, material thoughts and be more positive, more evolved, and more spiritual.

You Shouldn't Believe Everything In The Bible - Spare The Rod

Can One Book Change Your Life

Understanding the Chinese Calendars

Chinese calendars have been around since 2600 BC. This makes the Chinese New Year the longest record of time in history. In fact, it is even the largest chronological record. It began when Emperor Huang Ti first introduced the cycle of the zodiac, which is still in place today. The Chinese calendar is actually quite similar to the Western calendar. Known specifically as the Chinese Lunar Calendar, it is a yearly record of time. As the name suggests, it is based on the cycles of the moon.

One of the main differences between the Chinese and Western calendars is the naming of the years. Under the Lunar calendar, the twelve years are named after an animal. There is a legend which states that, before leaving the earth, Buddha had all of the animals come to them. However, only twelve came to say good bye to him. He rewarded them by naming a year after each one. They were named according to the order in which they arrived.

Thus is the reasoning behind the Chinese zodiac, which is tied in with the calendar. Many Chinese beliefs maintain that the animal names connected to the calendar are hugely influential for the people who were born in those years. It can affect everything from personality to preferences.

Over a quarter of the world's population is Chinese. That is how many people celebrate the Chinese New Year and ascribe to the associated calendar. Mind, they do not solely rely on the Lunar calendar. The Gregorian system a majority of the rest of the world uses is used by the Chinese for civil purposes. At its most basic point, the Chinese calendar determines the timing of the culture's various festivals.

The calendar is also based around certain astronomical factors. Specifically, it is based around the precise longitude of the sun, as well as the phases of the moon. As such, despite the fact that it is the oldest time piece in the world, the Chinese calendar has been impacted by modern science.

On one hand, the Lunar calendar bases its dates on the dates of the cycles of the moon. The cycles for the new moons are used specifically. Whenever the new moon occurs, it indicates a new month. The longitude of the sun is also used. It determines the Principal Terms of the Chinese calendar. Those in turn determine the actual numbers of each month.

In closing, as mentioned, each year corresponds to an animal. 2009 is the year of the Ox. The year of the Ox occurs every twelve years. The same can be said for the Dog, Rat, Snake, et cetera.

Proof of Life

Ah yes, I know this feeling: This is the part where I start to feel completely and utterly overwhelmed. I've come to know this place, the Land of Overwhelm. I visit so often, I might as well move my stuff here and take residence. I keep saying I want to do things differently, but what am I doing differently, really?

I look at my list of to-do's and the truth looks me in the eye: There is no humanly possible way you will get this all done today.

So I do what the experts tell me to do. I prioritize. I even look at my to-do's and figure out what can be postponed, what can be put off til that nebulous 'After-The-Holidays' time when supposedly everything in my life will get so much easier, and suddenly I will have limitless time to do everything I've been putting off. (Yeah, right.) I shuffle. I cancel an appointment here, a lunch date there. I put off going to the bathroom far too long. (My bladder understands I'm busy.) I've given myself permission to turn some "yes"es to "maybe"s and some "maybe"s to "no"s. I reschedule. I apologize.

And then, this morning, in my journal, I am practicing gratitude, making my list, checking it twice, of all the things I am grateful for in this moment. Doing my best to be present, to stay true to my core, to center myself, yada yada. And Overwhelm interrupts rudely, beckoning... "Hey! Don't forget about me. What are you doing journaling? Don't you have a butt load of things to do?" and then I try something different.

Adding to my gratitude list, I write in my journal "I am grateful for overwhelm." Overwhelm stops in her tracks and looks at me with a puzzled expression. I breathe into my overwhelm and decide to do it differently today. I don't need to resist it, to challenge it, to struggle, as much as overwhelm is one of my favorite struggles. Today, I'll simply dance with it.

For what is overwhelm, really, but proof of life? Granted, a full life, an overflowing life, and yes, I crave a simpler life, and yes I'd love to take a day of rest-but-there-is-too-much-to-do and yes, sometimes I feel like I am being swallowed, but today, I will practice gratitude for my stress- for the stress is proof of life, too. Do dead people feel stress? Do corpses feel overwhelmed? Doubt it.

There she goes again, even now, while I type this.

"There is so much to do..." her mantra, Overwhelm, whispering in my ear constantly, growing especially petulant when she thinks I have forgotten (silly notion- how could I forget?) "There is so much to do..." she whines "Aren't you overwhelmed???" Yes, I am.... yes, I know. Yes, there is. But here's the thing:

There is always 'so-much-to-do'.

Until I'm dead, of course, and then I'll have an infinite supply of vacation days. But knowing me, I'll probably reassign myself immediately into another body, come back right away, screaming my way back into the human race. That will be me, I bet, signing up for this thing, this messy, overwhelming, crazy, busy, stressful, beautiful thing called life, all over again.

The Times They Are Changing

We live in a very interesting time in world history. The evolution of getting to this point has never been so dynamic. Even though all the events that have taken place prior to this point in time have great significance, and the fact that it is what brought us here, our current world environment has been propelled into the 21st century with lightening speed. The advancement of technology in communications, information, and the internet has created the instant information age. And with that our conscious minds have become more inter connected with the world than ever before.

What is interesting is that this phenomenon is the staging ground for all of us to become more enlightened. We are, and always have been connected to the entire universe. We all have roots in the universe because consciousness affects our physical world, which includes all living things right down to the individual cells. Our minds have a great influence on our health and well being and on how we view the world. Our existence in the universe is born of a sense of participation and kinship with all others and all matter. The basic oneness of the universe is the central characteristic of the mystical experience, but is also one of the most important revelations of modern physics, (i.e. quantum physics). But I don't want to talk about quantum theory; I want to talk about the human connectedness, and what I detect as a shift in the thinking of more and more people.

Because of the information age, a fast paced lifestyle, what's in it for me attitude, and a win at all cost mentality, too many people began losing sight of the connection we all have with each other and the universe. The ideal of we are all in this together was fading, and taking responsibility for the common good of all, had begun to disappear. Over the last decade, an exponential amount of negative actions and the pursuits of an ideology of egotism have brought us to this juncture. But there is hope because I see the beginning of a change in the minds of many people.

Now, more than ever people are placing an increased importance on relationships. Taking stock of what really matters, like family, friends, and community. There is a new awareness that we are all connected to the universe, and that human consciousness and the physical world are intertwined. The realization is that there is a profound interaction that exists between conscious mental activity and the physical world itself.

We cannot separate our own existence from that of the outside world. We are not only associated with the earth that we inhabit, but with the furthest reaches of the cosmos. We affect all of those about us, so events such as caring, loving, and confiding exert profound consequences on the universe.

Following the Laws of Attraction, the universe gives us what we want if follow our dreams and our passions, but it also takes away if we lose sight of that connection that exists between us all. I believe that there is a change in the winds of time because there is the beginning of an understanding of this relationship. Maybe, just maybe it could be the start of the new Age of Enlightenment.

The Similarities and Differences of Pilates and Yoga

You can barely turn on the TV nowadays without hearing about Pilates or Yoga. When you take up a magazine, you are bound to find articles about these two exercise methods and it seems like everyone is doing either one or the other. What is all of the excitement about? Why are these techniques so special? What are the differences and similarities between Pilates and Yoga?

Yoga aims to unite the body, mind, and spirit. The person who aspires to do Yoga views that the body and mind are one. They believe that if the body is given the right tools and is taken to the proper environment then the body can find harmony and will be able to heal itself. Yoga is considered to be therapeutic. You will have a heightened awareness of your body's alignment, posture, and patterns of movement. Yoga tends to make your body more flexible and it will help you to relax even if you are in the middle of a stress stricken environment. Therefore, one of the most important reasons as to why people start practicing Yoga is that they want to feel more energetic, be more happy, feel more fit and be at peace.

One performs Yoga mainly in a group setting on a special Yoga mat with the help of a Yoga instructor. You use your body's own weight for resistance. You must also focus a great deal of your attention to the flow from one posture into that of another. Yoga styles are varied and there is not one style that is considered to be better than another. These styles also vary in their emphasis, and the style you choose is a matter of personal preference.

Pilates also seeks to reach many of the same goals as does Yoga by way of a series of movements that are very controlled. The major difference between Pilates and Yoga is that while doing Pilates exercises not only makes use of a mat, but it also incorporates work on different Pilates machines. The main thrust of the Pilates exercises is to improve posture, strengthen the abdominal muscles, improve balance, lengthen and stabilize the spine and improve overall strength. Pilates will tend to give you a leaner, longer, dancer-like line.

A Whole Body Workout

Unlike a variety of other training programs, Pilates makes an effort to work the whole body and places its emphasis on precision, control, and concentration in both the body as well as the mind. There is no attempt made at doing many repetitions at a time in a rapid, haphazard fashion. Instead, the focus is placed on quality and not the amount of reps you do. The "powerhouse" that consists of the lower back, abdominal muscles and the buttocks are at the center of all movement and this allows the rest of your body to move fluidly and freely. When one focuses on core stabilization, it makes the student stronger from the inside out.

This is critical for the advancement of the Pilates student. Pilates is low impact by nature and, therefore, it is ideal for the prevention of injury and for rehabilitation. Pilates has six guiding principles - concentration, centering, flow, control, breathing and precision. These principles train the body to move more efficiently while placing minimal impact on the body. With Pilates, there is a definite balance between flexibility and strength that creates a vigorous, symmetrical and health workout for all of the different muscle groups, which will result in a more balanced, leaner, and stronger body.

Why Clean Energy Investments Are the Future

Clean Energy Investments

Henry David Thoreau once said that 'Thank God men cannot fly, and lay waste the sky as well as the earth.' This saying not only brings out the growing unrest in the minds of millions of people around the world, but it also emphasizes on the fact that we have vastly damaged the planet already and it is time we acted.

Cleantech is one of the steps that we have taken towards reducing our dependency on environmentally taxing technologies. Cleantech is a set of clean technologies that have a minimal impact on the environment. It focuses on harnessing natural resources like solar power, bio fuel and other renewable power technologies.

While large developed economies like US are readily investing in clean energy, developing nations are also pouring billions of dollars into cleantech. China is one of the forerunners in cleantech investments with several Chinese venture capitalists, capital funds and corporate investing big time in cleantech.

A development challenge

As the population continues to rise, there is immense dependency on fossil fuels for producing electricity and the need for newer energy supplies is increasing every moment especially in developing countries. The fact that about 1.6 billion people around the world have no access to electricity disdains. Energy is also an extremely crucial part of the climate change equation. Around 80% of global CO2 emissions come from energy production and utilization.

What needs to be done?

Apart from massive clean energy investments, there needs to be a gradual transformation of the existing energy supply infrastructure. There needs to be a collaborative effort on the part of the governments of all the countries to foster newer clean energy ventures and to help commercialize existing promising technologies. The focus should also shift to energy consumption. The end users need to be educated about possible conservation methods that will reduce the impact on energy production.

LED Lighting - It's Quick Rise and What You Should Know

Almost everyone today knows what an LED light is in the most general sense, but few are aware of how fast it is set to become the main source of general lighting in both homes and businesses.Everyone from the Department of Energy to environmental advocates are pushing the pace of LED general lighting development because of the dramatic savings in energy associated with their use, and the fact that LEDs use no environmentally harmful substances like some older energy-saving bulbs (i.e. compact fluorescents which contain mercury).

Although light emitting diodes have been around since the 1960's, their use up until several years ago was confined to such things as indicator lights in electronic devices, traffic signals and instrument panels. It wasn't until the invention of the white LED (in the late 1990's) that people began to take a closer look at their ability to replace incandescent lighting in homes or businesses.Being a technology that uses a semiconductor to produce light means that the output and efficiency of LED lights is improving at a rapid pace; today's LED replacements can achieve a life span of 50,000 hours while consuming 80% less energy than a standard incandescent bulb.LEDs that produce a warm white light were invented by accident in 2005 but will allow a person to replace their incandescent bulbs with a similar color light to what they're used to. An additional benefit of LED lighting is that only a very small amount of UV or IR radiation is emitted, making it highly useful for locations where valuable art is hung on the wall or fading may be an issue.

The current market is full of LED replacement bulbs and lighting solutions, but it is also buyer beware. There is a lot of junk on the market today that if bought and tried will surely disappoint you.Well made LED replacement bulbs are still pricey and the cheap products on the market today, a lot of them being sold through big box stores, will not last nor produce or sustain a bright enough light. On a side note, LED bulbs (LEDs don't really need to be a bulb!) don't usually "burn out," instead their usable life is measured by a certain percentage decrease in brightness. The Department of Energy is using considerable resources to promote LED lighting (also called SSL, or Solid State Lighting) and just recently announced the Energy Star specifications for residential LED usage. That means in the near future you will have some assurance as a buyer that the product you are purchasing really will live up to your expectations.

In the meantime, it is important to buy your LED lighting from a trustworthy source with good customer service in case of any problems you might experience with this new technology.Companies that have established their credibility by working closely with, and traveling to, the factories making the LED lighting they carry are a good place to start your shopping.Look for the offer of a money-back guarantee if you are unsure of what you are buying and how it's going to work. Now is the time to start using LED lighting, but be sure to shop wisely and you will save yourself both time and money in the long run.

What Everybody Should Know About Solar Roofing Tiles

Solar panel roofing is a great option for today's energy-saving methods. However, there are a number of things that everybody should know about solar panel roofing before attempting to install them. These key points include what exactly are solar roof panels, how to build them yourself and what they can do for your house in the long-term.

What Our Solar Roofing Tiles -- A.K.A. Solar Photovoltaic Cells

Solar panel roofing looks like a regular asphalt roof but they contain a special thin film of photovoltaic cell substance on the top. These highly reliable cells harness and transform solar light directly into electricity that we can use at home to power any electronic appliance. Like any other regular roofing tiles that you may have seen, they blend in with your home and roof quite well. Aside from solar panels collecting available light, they can also be used to power a battery pack that acts as a generator for the whole household, thus keeping you well equipped in the case of a power outage. This battery pack also provides electricity to the household in the evening when no sunlight can be obtained.

How to Build Your Own Solar Panel (This is easier than you think)

The first thing you want to do is purchase a solar panel cell, which are very inexpensive these days. These cells can be purchased from a number of different retailers. The next step to build your own solar panel is to make a shallow box (comprising a plywood base and wood edges). You'll want this box to accommodate 36 cells. There are a number of other simple steps to follow and they do require some time in order to put this whole project together, however it will be time well spent considering how much you will actually be saving compared to buying solar panel roofing pre-made from solar retail companies.

How Solar Panel Sells Increase Your House Value

One of the little known facts for a lot of people is that the installation of solar panel roofing actually increases the total net worth of your house. The reason being is because when people purchase your house with solar panel roofing pre-installed, they know they will be paying much less a long-term electricity, gas and heating bills. Having solar panels on your roof pre-installed and working as a very attractive feature to have if you ever decide to sell your home, and not to mention make in your home a worthwhile investment and asset.

So in summary solar roof panels collects all available sunlight and convert it into power. This power goes towards providing electricity for both appliances and electronics. The included battery pack is also a big asset whenever there's a power outage in your home. Also the installation of solar panel roofing is a worthwhile investment given the huge savings in comparison to purchasing fully assembled solar panels. Lastly, it is important to keep in mind that the investment towards installing solar panel sells on your house not only saves you money in electricity bills, but also increases the value of your home, and not to mention the benefit you are doing for the planet.

Renewable Energy - Make It - Use It - Sell It

Are you (almost) afraid to open your electric bill each month?

Did you know that the average house uses (approx.) 10,654 kWh of electricity every year? (Source: Dept. of Energy) At an average cost of .1097 cents per kWh, that is $1168.00 per year!?

You know the Sun bombards us with more (free) power & energy than one can imagine and most of that renewable energy is wasted. If you can find a way to harness that energy and use it to power your home, that IS the way to go.

You can save (not pay for) 75 to 90% of your energy bill each and every month if you were able to use the renewable energy produced on a daily basis all around you.

AND why do we need to put up with the fairly regular brown-outs and black-outs that occur in a lot of areas?

As more and more people are becoming aware of the massive impact our energy uses have on the Environment, our wallets, and our National Security, this idea, Solar Power or more specifically, Home Solar Power is seeing a very large surge of interest.

Have you ever thought of having a home solar power energy system in your own back yard?

Many people have been expressing the interest in solar power & wind power for their homes for a couple of reasons:

1. First of all, they want to Save Money!
2. Secondly, of course, they want to help save the environment! (It is, after all, the only place we have to live right now.)

NOW, have you ever imagined building this type of solar power system?

Our Technology based lifestyles have us using all sorts of things to make our life safer, more hygienic, and more comfortable than our ancestors, and why not? However, that does come at a price if you want to continue to pay the electric company, the gas company, or whoever it is that you do pay to power these things that you want and need.

You can get all kinds of information about how to cut-back on your electrical usage but that doesn't change the price you pay for what you do use. Generating your OWN power will.

The first thing you are going to be thinking about is: Finding a professional company that can come in and do all the construction, disrupt your household for a while, (probably) make a mess and then hit you will a bill that might look like you buying a new car.

And of course there is the issue of whether there is anyone in your area that even does this kind of work.

But, Hey, I have a thought! Do you have a little bit of a Do-It-Yourself nature about you?

You can build (yourself) a Home Solar Power system for less than $200.00 with material that you can find at most hardware stores and construct it within the next week.

How does that sound to you?

Imagine if:

You never had to pay an electric bill again,
You KNOW that the power you are generating is Clean and Reliable,
When the power goes out for everyone else on your block, you can still carry on your daily activities,
Any excess power that you produce can either be stored for future use AND/OR
That extra power can be sold to the electric company?

Yes, you can make money from the electric company!

Imagine that.

Make It with your own Emission-free, silent, Green Home Solar Power plant.

Use It to power the lifestyle that you are comfortable with.

Sell It to the electric company when you don't need all of what you produce!

Go Green and Save Money With Your Energy Bill

The times they are a changin' and these days all of us want to reduce our carbon footprints and help save the earth. If you want to go green then there are many steps that you can take to help reduce your drain on the earth's resources and also help stop the drain on your bank balance. This article will show you how to go green and save money.

The easiest place to start saving money by going green is with your energy bills. Here are the top three things that you can do today that will not only save you money but also save energy:

1. In winter most of us have the thermostat cranked up as high as possible to keep our homes toasty warm, but you can be perfectly comfortable by lowering the temperature a few degrees. To find out what the perfect temperature is for you, each few days lower the temperature by just one degree to see how comfortable that is. Eventually you'll reach a temperature that is still comfortable but much lower than what you have it on now.

Same goes for summer. Keep adjusting the thermostat temperature up a degree every few days until you get to a level you are comfortable with.

2. Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFL's) use a lot less energy than regular light bulbs. They might be a little bit higher priced to begin with but they will last you substantially longer than regular incandescent bulbs so over the long term work out cheaper. Plus the savings you'll make on your lighting bill is well worth the cost.

3. If you have gone to the hardware store lately to look for power strips, you might have seen these new 'smart' power strips. The work by shutting off the power to your appliances that are not in use. Many people leave big appliances on all the time (such as televisions on standby or the kettle switched on ready to boil water at the next flick of a button) however even though they are not being used they are still using power in this 'stand by' mode. Either switch them off yourself or buy a smart power strip to detect it for you to save money and energy.

There are many simple ways that you can go green and save money at the same time and they don't have to impact on your lifestyle too much. By doing your bit for the environment you'll not only feel good about yourself you'll be making a substantial difference in our earth and your bank balance.

How to Make Wind Power & Save Tons of Cash on Energy Bills

Wind power is being used from ages and a windmill is not a new concept. People in historic times used windmills to draw water from wells, grind corn and wheat and even as an irrigation process for farms, where it was used to pump water out into the fields. The technology is pretty simple. When the wind blows the blades on the mill, it turns and spins a turbine installed inside and it generates electricity just like any coal plant would do.

For example a windmill that is located on the farm can generate enough power to run all the machines used on the farm. For farmers this is an ideal solution, because they do not have to buy additional power for their farm. However, can you do the same thing for domestic usage? Absolutely yes! It is simple enough and all you have to do is buy a windmill installation kit from the market. This kit will have specifications based on the amount of electricity you want to generate.

Keep in mind that this home purpose windmill is not going to replace the conventional power supply, unless you build a really big windmill, but an regular mill can cut down your conventional power consumption quite a lot. Once you get the kit, you will also get detailed instructions on how to install each component. The windmill does not have many components and all it has is the rotor blades, axle to rotate the fans, tower instructions and base instructions. The tower and the base are made of wood and you will have to make it yourself in most cases. The fans can be made of wood or light weight plastic material. Companies that sell green power usually have big farms full of fans so that they can generate enough power to supply several homes. People in the big cities also use wind power to go greener and save money.

You should also start using wind power, if you want to get free electricity and save cash on your energy bills. It's pretty simple to make a windmill, as long as you have the instructions. To get the manuals, and more info about how to get started, please click here.

Using Nuclear Power As an Energy Source

The thought of nuclear power still bring images to mind of the Cold War, the Chernobyl accident in the mid-1980's and the proliferation of destructive weapons. We remember the recent past well. Those images are hard to dispel. So, it's understandable if the public approaches the idea of building nuclear facilities with caution. But, nuclear power is being used today to produce a relatively low-cost source of energy. There are significant benefits (and a few drawbacks) of doing so. In this article, you'll discover what those advantages and disadvantages are. We'll also briefly discuss the future of nuclear power as an alternative energy source.

Advantages Of Nuclear Power

One of the main advantages of using nuclear power is that producing energy through it is less expensive than using our rapidly depleting inventory of fossil fuels. This is due, in part, to the high levels of energy released by nuclear fission (splitting the nucleus of an atom). It's also due to the availability and relative low-cost of uranium. It's estimated that uranium reserves throughout the world are sufficient to last over 100 years.

Another benefit is that the process of converting nuclear power into usable electricity doesn't release greenhouse gases into the environment. Even other alternative energy sources such as solar and wind energy release small quantities of greenhouse gas.

Disadvantages Of Nuclear Power

The cost to build and maintain a nuclear facility is substantial. That means that while nuclear power offers significant cost savings in energy production, it can take years to recoup the initial investment in the facility. Another drawback is that converting nuclear power into usable electricity results in significant nuclear waste. Storage of this waste is problematic because it involves political concessions. Because the political environment can be volatile and unpredictable, decisions made during one administration may be overruled or changed during a subsequent administration.

The Future Of Nuclear Power For Energy

Some claim that the lack of new nuclear facilities being built is a clear signal that the world is moving away from using nuclear power as an alternative energy source. But, that perspective may be short-sighted. In truth, substantial investment continues to be poured into the research of nuclear power. As the costs of using fossil fuels to generate usable power climbs and global warming becoming an ever-present topic of concern, many industry experts expect demand for low-cost, environmentally friendly nuclear power will grow.

Major countries such as Japan, India and the United States are aggressively pursuing the use of nuclear power as an energy source. In fact, Japan recently (in 2005) finalized construction on a new nuclear facility, displaying their dedication to its potential. As we deplete our current reserves of fossil fuels, it's likely that nuclear power will become more prevalent as an alternative energy source.

DIY Solar Power Projects?

For many do-it-yourself-ers, the world of solar energy is untapped because many people are unaware that doing things with solar energy is possible. Although DIY solar projects are not particularly easy projects, they are also far from impossible to do. As long as a person has a little ingenuity and the desire to finish a project, chances are that he or she could have some fun doing solar projects.

Some of the projects that a person who likes to do it yourself might consider tackling include:

  • Water heating - The hot water heater in nearly any home gets a lot of use. Even if there is only one person in a home, chances are that the hot water heater is often used. Because this hot water heater requires a lot of energy to run properly, it can be a costly appliance for somebody to run. The costs associated with this appliance turn up to be much more significant if the hot water heater is used in a home in which several people live. However, a person who has a few skills when it comes to fixing things up can hook up his or her own solar water heater. These water heaters work as the light collected by photovoltaic cells are transformed into energy.
  • Sun room - For this type of solar energy, there are no photovoltaic cells needed. A sun room is the most simple form of solar energy collection because there is no expensive equipment to buy. Anybody who has gone into a store and left their car under the hot sun to find that the car is very hot when they return already knows something of this kind of solar energy. Building a sun room is one of the DIY solar projects that is worthwhile because it provides a person a place where they can relax in the winter time, but still feel as if they are outdoors. The sun is one of the main sources that helps to heat a room like this.
  • Pool heaters - A person who owns a pool can fairly easily figure out a way to use the pool for a couple extra months each year by doing something such as installing solar pool heaters. These pool heaters work by circulating water in and out of the pool. As the water is circulated out, it is heated and then moved back into the pool. At the same time that warm water is being placed back into the pool, cool water is being taken from the pool. This is a continual process that gradually brings the temperature to a warm and comfortable level.
  • Remote control cars - A parent who has some do-it-yourself skills can make a toy for a child that he or she is likely to enjoy. A simple remote control car can be made by using a very small photovoltaic cell on the car portion of the device. The cell in these cases takes the place of the battery that would normally be used.

Any of these DIY solar projects can be done, however there are dozens of other projects from which do-it-yourself-ers can choose as well.

Build Solar Panels on Your Home - Solar Panels, Savings You Can Count

There has been a lot of people wanting to know how to build solar panels recently. As we've all seen in the past couple of years, the price of energy is skyrocketing, especially with oil prices reaching record levels almost every week. This economic pressure has begun to show itself as interest in building solar panels has also increased. To tell you the truth, learning how to build solar panels is not difficult at all.

There are two types of solar panels that are commonly used in residential areas, the solar hot water heating panel and the photovoltaic, electricity producing panel.

The purpose of this article is to discuss the photovoltaic type of panel. Solar hot water panels can greatly reduce the amount of energy your household needs by taking care of your water heating needs. Although they are outside the scope of this piece, it goes without saying that if your household uses less electricity, the smaller (and cheaper) your photovoltaic array will need to be.

The easiest way to experience how to build solar panels is to buy a kit which will have all of the materials you need and tools to assemble the panel(s). The usual set-up for photovoltaic includes solar cells, tabs to connect them, solder and flux to adhere the tabs and a soldering iron to melt the solder and hold it all together.

First, choose a site for the panel with a good exposure to as much of the sun's arc in the sky as you can without any interference from branches or wires and away from or above trees and buildings in your yard. If you can't use your rooftop, consider placing the panels on a mount, either a pole or a frame that will lift the panels about six feet or so off the ground. At this height, they will be less likely to be damaged by children, pets or other accidents like a small rock thrown from a lawn mower.

Build the solar panel by connecting a number of solar cells to one another (the amount varies by the size of your panel) in series by using the solder, flux and tabs. The amount of electricity you wish to generate will dictate the size and number of panels you need to put together.

There are many reasons to consider building solar panels and not just because its cheaper than buying them pre-made. There are loads of 'feel-good reasons' as well:

  • You can involve the whole family.
  • Take pride of knowing you are part of the solution to global warming.
  • Know that you can build solar panels for others.
  • Reduce your electricity bill every month.
  • Reduce your carbon footprint.
  • You reduce the need for building new fossil fuel burning power plants.
  • And, because you can build a larger array by doing the panel building yourself, you can create more energy than you use and get paid by your utility company (in some states).

Place the panel(s) in position and hook the whole thing up to your battery system, if your using one. Your batteries will collect any excess energy that you are not using for future, whether it is later in the day or even weeks from now.

Why is a battery system optional? There are many programs available where you tie directly into the grid and sell any excess power back to the utility as it is generated. This varies by locality. The positive aspect to this type of system is eliminating the need, expense and hassle of a bank of batteries but the negative is that you have no store of energy should the power go out.

Check with your local energy provider and state energy department because you should be able to sell all your excess energy back to the utility company. Some states have excellent rebates and programs set up just for this. This varies by locality.

With a large enough array (which you don't have to do all at once) and smart, energy efficient choices around the house, you could be running your solar panels at a profit every day.

A friend of mine on Long Island, NY, discovered that the new solar panels on his roof will recoup their costs in less than 18 months, not the three to seven years it was projected. When you think how cloudy the northeast U.S. is, that's a great deal.
